Graduate in Programming Python more than 50 participants from Querétaro, and Coahuila.
30% of women globally are studying a career in STEM, while in Mexico, the figure is 12%.
According to figures from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), only 9% of girls mexican think choosing a career in STEM and the great part is that they do not feel represented in the areas of tech, in comparison with 28% of the children.
In Mexico, only 3 of every 10 women professionals choose careers in STEM. A UNESCO study explains that the participation of women in careers in STEM in Latin america is limited by thes gender stereotypes, the obstacles in the career advancement for women who decide to become mothers, the overhead of domestic work and the under-representation of women in positions of leadership and decision-making in these areas.
That is why it is born CampaMET, a program of online training robotics aimed at teachers and girls high school students through training workshops in the area of technologies and robotics.
The lens focuses on empowering girls and mexican women in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), through training workshops in robotics supplemented with other panels and awareness-raising activities and visibility.
In this Third and Fourth Edition were involved more than 50 girls and teachers schools of the state of Coahuila as the Centre for Technology Studies, Industrial and Services Not 48 “Venustiano Carranza”, College Graduates “Carlos E. Martín Bringas”,CECYTEC “Roque González Garza” and in the state of Querétaro General Secondary School Is Not. 3 received training for more than 30 hours in Python programming through the platform Skills For All of Cisco. Was provided to all participants with the necessary materials, licenses of CISCO and unlimited access to the online platform Edublocks.
The content of the program ranged from the introduction to programming; analysis of arguments, literals, operators, variables, and data; decision making using loops, logical operators, systems, and resolution of problems.
The duration of CampaMET were the days Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, six sessions of three hours for two weeks.
At the end of the program all participants undertook a challenge virtual “Drawn with Python”, where they applied the knowledge learned in CampaMET “Fundamentals of Python 1 Skills For All Cisco”. The students were able to use codes of algorithm development, developed logical thinking and flew their imagination to draw a flower.
The best schedules for the program used more than seven algorithms, used their own pattern on the launch function of your drawing with the creativity of each and developed logical thinking which added another element of color to the drawing. They made a special recognition to Celia Rodríguez, Daira Vázquez, Fatima Alvarez, Julissa Shop, Laura Silva, Luna Hernández, Regina Garcia, Renata Carrea, Ruby Solis, Tania Lugo and Vania Garfias.
They made a special mention to the schedules of teachers Claudia Salinas and Alicia Solano by having a schedule excellent.
Also highlighted by girls for their creativity and commitment as Hanna Vizcaya, Dan Juarez and Valeria Albarran.
Additional, it was made a special recognition to the Director of the General Secondary does Not.3 Lic Sergio Galvan for their commitment to empowering girls in areas of STEM.
The Third and Fourth edition of the program CampaMET it has been possible thanks to our ally Magna for their great commitment to continue to promote female leadership in the areas of STEM.
